Kate Speck

Kate has more than 28 years experience working in the field of addictions. She received a BA in Human Relations from Doane College-Lincoln, and a Master of Adult Education at the University of Nebraska . She completed her PhD in Community and Human Resources at the University of Nebraska and holds a Masters in Addiction Counseling (MAC). As a Senior Research Manager at the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center , she is working on various projects including the SIG for Children's Behavioral Health and Disaster Behavioral Health projects. Besides working in residential, outpatient and EAP settings, she has developed and directed addiction treatment programming in Iowa , Louisiana , and in Nebraska . Kate has taught addictions counseling courses for the past eighteen years in the community, and for the past 10 years has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology, addictions, theory and ethics courses at the post secondary level.

She has a strong background in prevention/intervention, addressing addiction in families, working with pregnant and parenting women, and in training and education.

Kate is a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (IMINT) and has provided training and technical assistance in the use of Motivational Interviewing for the past six years.
