Human
Genome Public Policy Seminar
The Human Genome Public Policy Seminar, hosted
by the Public Policy Center, convened March 24, 1999. The
seminar investigated public policy implications of the Human Genome
Project, the international research effort mapping the sequence
of the human genome.
The seminar convened select researchers and professionals
with an interest in the Human Genome project to discuss policy-relevant
issues, review Nebraska initiatives, and discuss possible future
multi-disciplinary investigations.
The seminar featured four invited researchers from
the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Faculty Institute
project at Dartmouth College. The researchers gave an overview of
significant public policy challenges around the nation, as well
as presenting their model multi-disciplinary undergraduate and Faculty
Summer Institute course, "The
Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of the Human Genome Project."
The seminar also included a report on the
findings and recommendations of the Nebraska Commission on Human
Genetic Technologies.
